Creative Cooking – Chinese Steamed Egg

Background

Chinese steamed egg, for me, is my comfort food. It is steamed, warm, and savory. Everytime when I go back home, my grandpa will make me steam egg sometimes he would also add ground meat inside to make it full of protein.

Ingredients

  • two eggs
  • warm water 280g
  • salt
  • cooking oil
  • black pepper
  • green onions
  • soy sauce
  • oyster sauce
  • sesame oil

Steps

  • Crack 2 eggs in your favorite container – could be a mug or a bowl
  • Add a pinch of salt and mix them together
  • Pour a bit of oil.
  • Boil water in the meantime and let it cool until 40 celsius degree.
  • Pour the warm water into the container gradually
  • Cover with plastic wrap (if it is microwaveable, it is safe for this)
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes to get rid of the air bubbles (optional. If you are in a rush, you can use a spoon to get rid of them)
  • Migrate it to your pot for the steam (I used my instant pot “Steam” function, you can also do it in a deep pot depending on the height of your container. You have to make sure the container is supported by a rack.)
  1. Steam for around 10 minutes.
  2. Move it out and let it cool for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Prepare the sauce in the meantime:
    1. soy sauce 1 tsp
    2. oyster sauce 1/2 tsp
    3. sesame sauce 1/4 tsp
    4. black pepper
  4. Spread the green onions on top and pour the sauce.

5. Enjoy!

It is so yummy that there is no leftover.

Let me know how you like this!
